THE GOSPEL OF MARY
Into my hands came a new book on Mary Magdalene. There has been so much publicity since the advent of The Da Vinci Code, that I thought an exploration into this Mary would be interesting. I have many books on the recent writings, for it is nearly 50 years now since the finding of the Nag Hamadi scrolls, and then the Dead Sea Scrolls.
But there has been similar findings before, and one of those was the Gospel of Mary first found in 1896, though translations have been scarce until now. Which leads me to believe that Emma Curtis Hopkins was aware of this and actually used it in her Ministry of the Holy Mother, rather than Mary the Mother of Jesus. You never know with Emma just where she gets her startling ideas from. Her emphasis on the value of women could be explained by this concept.
The book I am recommending that all New thought groups should study for its metaphysical content and the translation of the Gospel that parallels closely the ideas of New Thought. Is

Paraphrasing the Gospel translations because of copyright it starts out by the disciples asking Jesus – What is Matter – will it be destroyed. And he replies “All nature, all formations, all creatures exist in and with one another, and they will be resolved again into their own roots.
He who has ears to hear let him hear.
Does that not sound familiar to those who have been following The Gospel According to Thomas in this publication
Again they ask: What is sin?
And Jesus replies
That there is no sin but what you yourselves make when you act according to your corrupted nature. This is why Good has come into your midst.
Those of you who have studied Emma Curtis Hopkins’ Scientific Christian Mental Practice will recognize ‘the Good’ in her first chapter. And again Emma’s incredible knowledge of the metaphysical realm in all religions is beyond comprehension. In going through High Mysticism I have been trying to record the different people and events she has quoted. The list is stupendous.
Again in the Gospel: This is why you become sick . . . matter gave birth to a passion that has no equal, which proceeded from something contrary to nature. Then there arises a disturbance in its whole body.
Didn’t Emma call this chemicalization where:
" It is a condition in the mind that is brought about by the conflict that takes place when a high spiritual realization contacts an old error state of consciousness. The mind of man is constantly at work, and this work results in the production of thought forms. These thought forms assume individual definiteness. They take on personality, which works out into the body. Whenever a new spiritual idea is introduced into the mind some negative belief is disturbed. It resists, with this resistance comes more or less commotion in the consciousness. This is called ‘chemicalization’ this can be greatly modified or eliminated by putting the mind in divine order through denial. If the cleansing baptism of denial does not precede the Holy Spirit's descent, there is conflict in the consciousness - the old error thoughts contend for their place, refuse to go out, and a veritable war is the result. When the conscious mind has been put in order, (in harmony), the Holy Spirit descends with peace like a dove."
