GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THOMAS
GIRD UP YOUR LOINS?
|Logia 20||The disciples said to Jesus: Tell us what the Kingdom of Heaven is like.
He said to them : It is like a mustard-seed, smaller than all seeds. But when it falls on the tilled earth, it produces a large branch and becomes shelter for the birds of heaven.
If you take the meanings of the words
Tilled earth = opens itself to the seed. The receptive mind.
Tree = strength.
Heavenly birds = spiritual ideas.
Kingdom = expansion – every bit of mankind will be taken over and sheltered i.e. 91st Psalm.
Now, we have a seed of truth which is yet so small, but when it falls into a receptive mind it grows strong to become an accepting mind for Spiritual ideas.
Mary said to Jesus: Whom are thy disciples like?
He said: They are like little children who have installed themselves in a field which is not theirs. When the owner of the field come, they will say: “Release to us our field”.
They take off their clothes before them to release it (the field) to them and to give back their field to them.
Therefore I say: If the lord of the house knows that the thief is coming, he will stay awake before he comes and will not let him dig through into his house of his kingdom to carry away his good. You then must watch for the world, gird up your loins with great strength lest the brigands find a way to come to you, because they will find the advantage, which you expect.
Let there be among you a man of understanding when the fruit ripened, he came quickly with his sickle in his hand, he reaped it.
Whoever has ears to hear let him hear.
There are many images here, so let us take them one by one.
First of all the ‘knows’ (line 7) in this Logia is ‘to be aware’. Also this phrase “Whoever has ears to hear” is constantly repeated throughout the Gospel and indicates that you must use your extended hearing, meaning the inner ear to what is being said.
(Mary here may have been Mary Magdalene. Who often questioned Jesus.)
Little children = the disciples or the saved.
Field = the body or the material world.
Owners of the field represent the powers of this world, and to leave the field is to die and let the material powers take over.
Nakedness in Judaism is an expression of the man’s soul when he has been unfaithful.
Nakedness is spiritual not of the body. This comes from Adam and Eve who realized that they had brought their spiritual being down and therefore had to clothe it to exist on this planet (this is more fully explained in Hidden Bible Secrets, Parts 6 &7).
So the true Gnostic therefore strips off his body and leaves it in the field. For the soul goes on and the body is not needed any more.
Manichean Psalm Book
In the ‘Apocryphon of John’
To the Gnostic this particle of light is all-important and must be guarded against any robber. You will hear it mentioned many times in this Gospel, for it lights up every cell of our body. At the center of every cell there is a light, a vibration. Which is why again, ‘all is vibration’. Modern day quantum physics says, that the body is composed of particles and the whole system is made up of parcels of energy – light! Today we call this particle of light the I AM or the Christ Consciousness. It is not something to be obtained, but realized.
Ernest Holmes advocated incarnation, not reincarnation. Man should go on not be tied to this world, that this here is just one phrase of his existence. We need not remain imprisoned in this plane of existence – material world-.
The moment of ‘break in’ is the moment of so called death as the soul leaves the body, and takes with it the particle of light. The thief is the element of darkness, which will not release the particle of light. You must be all prayed up so that when the robbers break in we will be prepared.
A fellow worker arrived home from a vacation during Easter. She did her washing and went to sleep at 8.30. Someone thought she was still away, They cut her screen, pried open he window, climbed in and took her VCR. They then went out by the door, leaving her still asleep.
Some say this is what happens to us, we are considered asleep on this plane (also according to Paul). We sleep walk through our day, and let day after day go by until we realize that it is Sunday. Then we make a rush to church and confess our sins in the hope that it will last us for the week. Or we start our day with a meditation, but then let people rob us of that central point of integrity, as Emma Curtis Hopkins calls it, so that when we come home at night we have to start all over again.
If we but will come to recognizing the presence of God ALL the time, that inner core of our being is protected.
To the true Gnostic, the meaning of death is that the soul is liberated from the body and sent out upon its last difficult steps of its journey to the boundaries of heaven. There is no question of waiting for the resurrection of the body on the last day.
We have been stuck with this concept of resurrection since the Nicene convention of 333 AD. This was one of those items that the Arians were so opposed to, but still the bishops passed the resolution. Actually, they succeeded by calling the Arians heretics and forbidding over a thousand of them access to the meeting. We have had to put up with the Nicene Creed ever since.
There is in fact no resurrection at the end of the Gospel of Mark. Those last few verses had been added. You will find that some bibles do leave them off.
The brigands will indeed find the advantage you expect. When you dwell on the negative side of life that is exactly what you will get.
As we understand that God is ALL and ALL is God, the negativity will be cut out and we will know that there is only God Health, God’s abundance, and Divine Order in our affairs. As we keep our integrity point inviolate; we can walk through any challenge that may face us.
